The Number Of Applicants For Construction Job Openings Plummets

Since contractors still have trouble filling positions, the number of applicants for open positions in the construction industry has almost halved this year.

As per the most recent data from the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo), people are delaying changing professions due to the cost of living crisis. Despite a 6% decline in job openings between January and October 2022, data from the industry leader in job boards, Broadbean Technology, showed that the number of applicants per opening fell by 44% during that same time, a much faster rate than the overall decline in vacancies.

According to Ann Swain, Global CEO of APSCo, “the greatest problem for recruiters across the sector is the ongoing decline in application numbers. At the same time, the construction business has had a roller coaster in terms of jobs throughout 2022.

She further stated, “we don’t expect to see a turnaround in hiring very soon, according to the most recent data, demonstrating that the economic uncertainty since the beginning of September has slowed hiring.”
