Moving to Saudi Arabia to start a new job has often meant leaving family behind until job and residency paperwork is done. That separation can make it difficult to take even a good job offer.
On October 6, 2026, the Saudi Ministry of Interior announced new family visa rules that will allow eligible highly skilled expatriates to apply for family entry visas. This change may make it easier for Saudi employers to hire candidates from abroad.
Which Family Members are included?
The new procedure includes the wife, children under the age of 25 years and unmarried daughters of a qualifying worker. It’s covering both husbands and wives, so eligible male and female professionals are able to take advantage.
The age limit is specifically for sons. Unmarried daughters were not given such an age restriction in the announcement.
This arrangement does not cover parents, brothers and sisters, married daughters and sons 25 years and above. Some relatives can get other kinds of visas, like family visit visas, but those have different rules.
What’s Changed in the Visa Process?
Previously new expatriates tended to complete their employment and residency formalities before making arrangements for dependents to join them.
Eligible family entry visas can now be issued on a worker’s employment visa, all requirements have to be met. Then family members do their procedure after arriving in Saudi Arabia for Residence Permit.
However, the change does not automatically permit dependents to work. They have to meet separate employment requirements.
Who are Eligible Expat Workers?
It is an announcement for highly skilled expat workers. However, the authorities did not provide a detailed list of qualifying occupations, salary thresholds or educational requirements for this specific procedure.
In 2025 Saudi Arabia introduced a system of classification of work permits for highly skilled, skilled and basic occupations.
Before promising to move families, employers should check the eligibility of foreign staff members.
What Does This Mean for Job Seekers?
New family visa regulations may ease the move of qualified skilled expats to Saudi Arabia. Eligible candidates can now move to Saudi with their spouses and children, instead of living alone and keep traveling back to their own countries.
Candidates can confirm whether their family qualifies before accepting a job offer, they should also ask about the expenses involved in getting visas, accommodation, medical insurance and other costs to avoid any surprise financial burden.
It is recommended that a candidate applying for this visa should prepare family documents early and keep enough time for verification, government approvals and travel arrangements. The new rules mean applications can be processed together, but it can take some time for visas to be approved and issued.
