The Finnish government made important changes to its labour laws in June 2025. These changes are meant to help firms fill important job openings more quickly, especially in fields where there aren’t enough workers.<\/span><\/p>\n

What Has Changed in 2025?<\/b><\/h3>\n

Job Change Easier for Permit Holders<\/b><\/p>\n

If a foreign worker has a Finnish work permit, switching jobs is even easier if the new job is in a shortage sector like logistics, construction, or hospitality. They don’t even need to apply for a new permit. This saves time from pinning down a new permit and allows these workers to get into jobs faster.<\/span><\/p>\n

Additional time after job loss<\/b><\/p>\n

If a worker loses their job, they will have up to 3 (or up to 6 months for specialists) months to find a new job whilst still retaining their residence permit. This provides more flexibility and time to both parties.<\/span><\/p>\n

Informing about termination<\/b><\/p>\n

If an employee who is on a work permit leaves or is terminated from employment, the employer must notify the Finnish Immigration Service within 14 days.<\/span><\/p>\n
