This summer, the hospitality sector in Europe faces a huge shortage of workers, which affects some of the continent’s major tourist destinations. Reports indicate that Spain, Italy, and Croatia are having a hard time finding waiters and other related staff categories.<\/span><\/p>\n

That means the hospitality staff is in high demand after the boom in tourism following the pandemic. In Spain, a forecast shows that tens of thousands of pub and restaurant positions will not be filled even in 2024, recurrently bringing problems with the staff every summer.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the beginning of the season, many restaurants in the Italian region of Abruzzo were understaffed. A similar situation seems to be happening in Croatia, where the demand for waiters is reportedly very high, and the waiter profession has become the most required one in 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n

Others turn to foreign labor to meet this demand. This route has been controversial. In one breath, it is averred that foreign workers are a necessity. The demand cannot be met otherwise.
